The Foster dam, located immediately downstream of Brome Lake on the Yamaska River, plays an essential role in regulating the water levels of the lake and downstream watercourses. Built in 1984, this gravity-concrete structure comprises five adjustable gates and a fixed weir. With an earth embankment on the left bank and a high-capacity dam classification, it is subject to strict safety standards to ensure its durability and efficiency.

Artelia was commissioned to assess the safety of this dam and its dike, in line with the latest legal requirements. This mandate included an in-depth analysis of the structural condition, a verification of the discharge devices and design criteria, and a validation of the hydrological and hydraulic data. In addition to reviewing the structure’s classification, our team analyzed the reservoir’s topography and updated the retained water management plan. A rigorous approach to guarantee the safety and resilience of this strategic infrastructure.
