The project to redevelop the intersection of Côte-des-Neiges Road and Remembrance Road, located in the heart of the Mount Royal heritage site, was the perfect opportunity to create a new gateway worthy of Mount Royal, Montreal’s most emblematic park. The project was conceived as a welcoming space for pedestrians, cyclists and even wildlife, underlining the city’s commitment to reconnecting citizens with their mountain, beyond mere automobile traffic.

Our multidisciplinary team was mandated to participate in every stage of design and implementation, overcoming the many challenges associated with redeveloping such a central and busy intersection. The site, with its unique geography and natural environment, is home to many mature trees that had to be preserved and even transplanted. The new layout impressively transforms the Remembrance-Côte-des-Neiges axis, replacing viaducts with intersections equipped with traffic lights.It also integrates a public square lined with vegetation, and completes the network of paths known as the “chemin de ceinture du Mont-Royal”. In addition, the project upgrades the area’s underground networks (sewer, aqueduct, electricity, telecommunications and natural gas). This project illustrates an interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at creating a unique space at the heart of the Mount Royal heritage and historic site.
