The 30 km extension of Route 138 between La Tabatière and Tête-à-la-Baleine marks a decisive step in opening up the isolated villages of the Lower North Shore. One of the last major road infrastructure developments in Quebec, this project represents a quantum leap in opening up the region and promoting local development.
This ambitious project includes the construction of a 143-metre bridge over Lac du Gros Mecatina and 16 culverts, while crossing unspoiled natural environments. Designed to meet the highest safety standards, the section adapts to the presence of numerous watercourses, peat bogs and wetlands, while maintaining the environmental integrity of the area.
Artelia, in collaboration with its partners, was commissioned to design this strategic section from start to finish. Our services include preliminary studies, detailed design of plans and specifications, integration of rigorous environmental measures, and technical assistance during construction. We design a bi-directional granular pavement and culverts on cohesive soils. The stability of road embankments and culverts on peat bogs is ensured by reinforcement berms, with temporary structures to accelerate settlement. Faced with the challenges of this remote region, we ensured self-sufficiency in materials and the continuity of the Route Blanche, essential for the mobility of residents.
This project is not just a road, it’s a vital link that connects communities and supports the sustainable development of the Lower North Shore. Thanks to our expertise and commitment, we’re contributing to a more connected and prosperous future for the region.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
