The Île-d’Orléans Bridge, inaugurated in 1935, is a vital link between the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and Île d’Orléans, serving more than 7,000 residents and attracting 675,000 tourists every year. With a total length of 1.74 km, it is indispensable for both daily and tourist traffic. This design-build (DB) reconstruction project calls for a new 2-lane cable-stayed structure, including shoulders, multi-purpose paths and lookouts. It also includes the development of approaches for optimal connection to Highway 40 and the road to the south, while providing for the deconstruction of the old bridge at the end of the mandate.

Artelia, in collaboration with ARUP, has been commissioned to provide engineering support throughout this ambitious project, covering the planning, completion and close-out phases. We are leveraging our expertise in bridge, road, traffic, environmental and landscape architecture engineering to ensure the project’s success. Our role includes finalizing the reference project, assisting in the selection of contractors, and verifying technical and environmental compliance. We also oversee the management of complex challenges related to geotechnical and seismic conditions, as well as harmonious integration with protected sites and specific construction requirements, ensuring a comprehensive and coherent approach.
