Our Urban Infrastructures and Lighting experts were commissioned for the Parc des Royaux and Rue Larivière redevelopment project in Montreal. This is the first multifunctional project in which a street is transformed into a “sponge street”, that is, a street that combines optimal stormwater management, greening and the recreational and cultural needs of local residents.
As the Sainte-Marie neighborhood is located below, it forms a natural basin that receives a large quantity of rainwater from the neighborhoods located higher up during heavy rains. The Rue Larivière redevelopment project will include several surface retention basins to hold back some 900 m³ of stormwater, and a new drainage network to direct runoff from upstream streets. The redevelopment will contribute to the City of Montreal’s goal of creating at least 8,500 m² of green drainage infrastructure on the street – the equivalent of three Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Our experts have been commissioned, in collaboration with Provencher__Roy, to redevelop the Parc des Royaux, mainly by redesigning the surface of a skatepark that will act as a surface retention basin during rainfall events. They will also carry out the redevelopment of rue Larivière, between avenue de Lorimier and rue Parthenais, consisting of the implementation of multifunctional spaces for the integration of stormwater, greening and recreational and cultural needs in the area. The work includes the addition of bioretention surface retention basins for stormwater management, with the aim of turning the section into a sponge street, the installation of a new underground storm pipe, ensuring stormwater drainage to the surface retention areas, the installation of a new street lighting network and the construction of the pavement and pedestrian sidewalks.
We are proud to be involved in this project, which will promote optimal stormwater management to make the area an exemplary resilient space.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
