The major reconstruction project for the Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels, located under Highway 720 in downtown Montreal, aims to modernize and secure these essential infrastructures to ensure the fluid mobility of people and goods for the next 40 years. In addition to rehabilitating the vaults, walls, drainage and lighting systems, this initiative extends to bringing safety systems up to standard, reconstructing overpasses and optimizing ventilation towers. The challenge lay in the complexity of the work, which had to be carried out while keeping the tunnel operational, in a dense urban context with ageing structures.

Working as part of a consortium, the Artelia team is overseeing several construction work packages, including track rehabilitation, reconstruction of the Saint-Laurent and Saint-Urbain viaducts, and modernization of the ventilation and electrical systems. This decade-long project requires constant coordination with the Centre intégré de gestion de la circulation (CIGC) and the numerous stakeholders to minimize interruptions and ensure the safety of users and workers. Our expertise enables us to meet the many technical and logistical challenges of a project of this scale.
