The Zibi project, located on the banks of the Ottawa River, is a unique and ambitious development project that breathes new life into a former industrial zone. With over 350,000 m² of residential and commercial space, the project aims to revitalize the area while meeting the highest standards of sustainable development, including those of the internationally recognized One Planet Community certification. This energy-efficient initiative includes 3,500 new housing units built to LEED criteria, creating an inspiring neighborhood for the Ottawa and Gatineau communities, while incorporating innovations in sustainability and ecological design.
As part of this project, Artelia was commissioned to design an eco-responsible district heating and cooling network, covering over 98% of the district’s energy needs by recovering heat from local industry. Our teams carried out feasibility studies and designed the systems, including a power plant and a network of underground pipelines supplying buildings on either side of the district. Thanks to this approach, we helped the Zibi project achieve its objectives of carbon neutrality and sustainable energy management, integrating innovative and sustainable engineering solutions at the heart of this pioneering project.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
