The Port-Cartier tailings facility, managed by ArcelorMittal Mine Canada (AMMC), is an active site that processes silica residues from the beneficiation of iron concentrate for pellet production. It includes three water ponds and a dry tailings pond. Every year, dry tailings are transported and stored to maintain the integrity of the park and prevent any environmental risk. This project is of particular importance, as it ensures that the park operates smoothly while complying with strict environmental requirements.
Artelia has been commissioned by AMMC to manage the entire Port-Cartier tailings facility. We are responsible for planning, implementing and verifying tailings management activities, ensuring rigorous quality control and adherence to budgets. We also coordinate the updating of five-year plans, supervise the work carried out by external consultants, and guarantee the safety of the park, while monitoring expenses and taking corrective action when necessary. This mandate also includes emergency response management and communication of environmental requirements to all stakeholders.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
