Artelia was commissioned to carry out a study with a view to extending the life or replacing the Newfoundland Labrador Hydro (NL Hydro) dock located at the port of Holyrood, Newfoundland, near St. John’s. In addition to our teams’ recognized expertise in heavy and complex industrial systems, marine infrastructures and power generation technologies, we were able to enhance our service offering to NL Hydro thanks to the technical support of the Artelia Group.

The dock at the Port of Holyrood, located on Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula and built in 1969, is essential to the region’s industrial activities. It is mainly used for fuel unloading and logistical support for the Holyrood thermal power plant, and plays a crucial role in the island of Newfoundland’s energy supply. The dock provides safe berthing for vessels carrying oil and other materials required for the operation of the power plant.

To carry out this mandate, our team will focus on evaluating two solutions; extending the viability of the dock by 50 years, or replacing it completely. The chosen option will have to be cost-effective and meet long-term operational requirements and sustainability objectives, while facilitating fuel delivery. This work will be essential to ensure the continuity of energy operations and meet the province’s growing electricity needs.

Expertise enhanced by the Artelia Group

Our experts from the Industrial, Construction and Major Projects vice-presidency will be in charge of the project, in addition to our colleagues from the Artelia Group in Thailand who will provide technical support in Marine Engineering, Marine Structure, Piping and Processes. We are also delighted with our partnership with local subcontractor Newdive, who will provide commercial diving services. This partnership will help strengthen our business base in the region, with a focus on the Maritimes.

Congratulations to our teams on obtaining this mandate, which will enable us to offer our innovative and sustainable solutions while strengthening our presence and reputation in the Maritimes.
