The City of Granby has commissioned Artelia to add an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection stage to its wastewater treatment plant. Our team will handle the design and supervision of the work for this project, carried out in collaboration with our Building, Urban Infrastructure, and Surveying and Data Acquisition teams.

A new building will be constructed on the wastewater treatment plant site to house the UV disinfection system, which will treat the water before it is discharged into the Yamaska Nord River. This initiative demonstrates the City of Granby’s commitment to adopting high-performance and sustainable solutions, in line with evolving provincial regulations that promote the use of UV technology for disinfection. The current facility already treats up to 104,000 m³ of wastewater per day using a proven process that includes pretreatment, aerated tanks, and secondary clarifiers.

The project involves partially diverting the existing outfall to the new building, which will house two disinfection channels operating in parallel, as well as all necessary control panels and equipment. The work must be carried out without interrupting plant operations, which will require rigorous planning, particularly for the installation of a temporary pumping system during the connection.

Our Building team is also involved in the project

Our experts in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Structural Engineering will also provide their services for this project. The new building to be constructed will include storage space, an overhead crane, a large electrical room with an operator station, a bypass system for the disinfection facility, and an energy recovery system for heating and air conditioning. They will also be working in collaboration with our Urban Infrastructure colleagues, who will handle the building’s layout, civil works, and the connection between the existing plant and the new building.

Wastewater treatment plants play a vital role in protecting the environment and public health. We are proud to support Quebec cities, including Granby, in modernizing this infrastructure.
