Ensuring the optimal implementation of a hydroelectric development, while respecting local communities and the sustainable management of water resources.

As part of the energy transition, hydropower plays a key role as a renewable, reliable and sustainable source of energy. Artelia has been actively involved in major hydropower projects for several decades. We have contributed to many iconic James Bay developments, such as LG1, LG2A, LG4, La Grande-1, Brisay, La Romaine, Eastmain-1, 1A and La Sarcelle, acquiring leading local expertise in the process. As part of the Artelia Group, with nearly a century of experience in hydraulic engineering, allows us to offer global expertise in dam design and construction, with more than 85 projects to our credit. This unique combination allows us to offer public and private producers a full range of services for the construction, rehabilitation and optimization of hydroelectric structures.

Our services cover all stages of a project, from pre-feasibility studies and field reconnaissance (hydrology, topography, geology, geotechnics) to detailed design, construction supervision and construction management, including project management and procurement follow-up. We also carry out environmental assessments, safety inspections and audits, economic and financial analyses, hydraulic studies (physical and digital models) and community relations planning, including aboriginal communities.

We can work in different contractual procurement contexts, such as conventional contracts, Engineering-Procurement-Construction Management (EPCM), Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) or other alternative and/or collaborative modes. All our engineers involved in construction management already have experience of dam and hydroelectric project design, and have developed tools to facilitate day-to-day control of construction activities.

Relying on our experienced teams, who have designed and supervised numerous hydroelectric projects, we develop technical solutions that meet requirements while integrating environmental and social dimensions. Whether we are studying, designing or managing the construction or rehabilitation of hydroelectric facilities of various capacities, or innovative projects such as pumped storage power plants, we act to support a sustainable energy transition.
