Always on the lookout for ways to optimize its performance, Domtar’s Windsor plant proposed an energy improvement project under Hydro-Québec’s program for the purchase of electricity from cogeneration plants. The project involved the installation of an 18 MW turbine-generator, making use of forest residues generated on site, as well as biomass from external sources, including residues from the region’s construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) sector. The aim was to increase energy production while promoting more sustainable resource management.

As part of this project, Artelia was commissioned to carry out a complete environmental impact study, in compliance with Quebec’s Environment Quality Act (EQA). The aim of the study was to assess the project’s effects and propose appropriate mitigation measures. Our services included environmental and social impact assessment, air emissions modeling, and preparation of the necessary applications for certificates of authorization. We also supported the project with public presentations and complementary studies, while providing a monitoring and follow-up plan for the work.
