The goal of the new Île d’Orléans bridge project is to replace the existing, obsolete bridge between the north shore of the river and Île d’Orléans. This major initiative, essential as a link between the island and its region, required an in-depth analysis of the environmental impacts, both on the natural environment and on human communities. The work area, including the mouth of the Montmorency River, is particularly sensitive due to its rich fauna and special ecological status.

Artelia was commissioned to carry out an environmental impact assessment for this major project. We carried out a detailed assessment of the risks associated with encroachment, contamination and erosion, in order to protect the wildlife habitats of the St. Lawrence River. We also carried out an in-depth landscape analysis to assess the visual impact of the new infrastructure, particularly with regard to the management of the existing bridge, which is of great heritage value. Our expertise enabled us to propose appropriate mitigation measures to minimize the project’s impact on the environment and ensure the harmonious integration of the new infrastructure.
