Located in the heart of Montreal, the Bercy courtyard site bore the marks of a significant industrial past, notably from the activities of Canadian Pacific and a former metallurgy plant. Closed in 1989, the site was then used for slag storage. As part of the transformation of this space into municipal infrastructure, the City of Montreal wanted to evaluate the possibility of keeping certain contaminants in place while ensuring the safety of users and the environment.
To address this issue, our experts carried out a rigorous and strategic intervention. In addition to the numerous studies already conducted, we performed an in-depth environmental characterization, a toxicological and ecotoxicological risk analysis, and developed a remediation plan in accordance with MELCCFP requirements. We also prepared for the public meeting, produced plans and specifications, monitored the remediation work, and treated the groundwater over several years. Through effective risk management, we were able to propose recovery solutions that reduced costs while ensuring the protection of human health and wildlife. This was a complex project carried out in a dense urban environment, where each step was designed to balance safety, compliance, and sustainability.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
