Located in the Bécancour Industrial Park, Nemaska Lithium’s new lithium conversion plant will play a central role in the development of the lithium-ion battery supply chain. The 300,000 m² industrial complex will include process buildings, storage areas, storage silos, an electrical substation and parking areas. The plant will transform the ore extracted from the Whabouchi mine in Northern Quebec into lithium hydroxide, an essential product for battery manufacturers who are expanding rapidly, particularly in the North American market.

Artelia was commissioned to provide a range of technical services for this large-scale project. Prior to construction, our team conducted in-depth geotechnical investigations and a comprehensive environmental characterization of the site, which provided a detailed understanding of the soil and water conditions and the environmental impacts associated with the project. In addition, extensive groundwater and surface water monitoring was required to ensure the project’s regulatory and environmental compliance.

During the construction phase, our materials engineering and quality control teams supervised all foundation work for the buildings and equipment, ensuring compliance with the highest safety and quality standards. We also conducted rigorous checks on the materials used, ensuring their compliance and performance. In addition, our environmental characterization and remediation team carried out groundwater monitoring. Thanks to our expertise, we are contributing to the strength and sustainability of this strategic facility for the North American battery industry.
