The University of Montreal’s Outremont Campus development plan called for the requalification of the former Canadian Pacific rail yard to create a university campus and residential neighborhood. To open up the site and allow the rail tracks to be relocated, the City of Montreal built a new section of rue Thérèse Lavoie-Roux and a new railway bridge. The latter, which spans the road axis, was conceived and designed to integrate distinctive architecture and thoughtful lighting, combining functionality and aesthetics.

Artelia, in partnership with Civiliti, was commissioned to design the plans and specifications for the future campus’s municipal and rail infrastructure. By incorporating innovative lighting for a safe night-time environment, this project aims not only to meet Canadian Pacific standards, but also to achieve LEED accreditation, underlining our commitment to sustainable practices. This initiative positions the railway bridge as a key element in the creation of a modern and welcoming university environment. The project was awarded 2 prizes at the 10th edition of the Grands Prix du Design, namely the Mention Éclairage and the Hors catégorie Prize.
