The tributary of the Ouimet-Gascon watercourse in Terrebonne was facing problems of slope instability and bank erosion over a section of about 200 metres. This situation, particularly preoccupying in an urbanized area behind private residences and close to the Parc écologique de la Coulée, required stabilization solutions adapted to the environmental and aesthetic challenges, while taking into account the difficulty of access to the work zone. To meet these challenges, an innovative approach was implemented, combining bank protection and slope stabilization, while respecting landscape integration and minimizing environmental impact.

Artelia was commissioned to stabilize the 6 to 10 metre-high embankments over 200 linear metres. The solution consisted of installing green gabions to protect the banks and revegetate the foot of the embankments, combined with toggle anchors up to 10 metres deep to stabilize the slopes. This approach, which preserved mature trees and avoided major excavations, represents a first in Quebec. In addition, riprap was installed to prevent erosion caused by two rainwater outfalls, effectively addressing residents’ concerns while ensuring the project’s sustainability.
