The new University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM), a pillar of Quebec’s healthcare network, ranks among the largest hospitals in North America. With its seven pavilions totalling 400,000 m², it houses 772 individual rooms, 75 laboratories, 39 operating theatres, 700 examination rooms and 1,354 underground parking spaces.

Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, the project to build this new integrated health center represented a unique opportunity for urban consolidation. However, the density of traffic in the area and the need to maintain medical services during construction posed considerable challenges. With emergency services operational at all times, our teams had to develop innovative solutions to ensure optimal management of site activities.

Our team specializing in Intelligent Mobility Transportation carried out an exhaustive travel management analysis and developed a concept that met the requirements of the City of Montreal’s transportation plan. From the outset of the project, we implemented a traffic and impact management plan specific to each stage of construction, right through to project completion. Our experts developed customized traffic management strategies aimed at minimizing disruption to citizens, whatever their mode of transport, while ensuring uninterrupted access to the hospital for ambulances, staff and patients.
