Redevelopment of Galt Street West: a new breath of life for the gateway to downtown Sherbrooke

The main objective of this project was to rebuild the municipal infrastructure on Galt Ouest and connect it to Alexandre and Belvédère streets. The extensive work involved rebuilding the combined sewer system and installing a storm sewer system on part of the Galt Street section. In addition, the drinking water network was completely renovated, and all residential and commercial service connections were overhauled.

As part of this civil intervention, the project also included reconstruction of the pavement structure, with the addition of foundation drains along its entire length. Teams paved and laid cement concrete curbs and sidewalks, as well as creating bicycle paths and landscaping, including planting beds and plant benches. Modifications were also made to road signage, and affected surfaces were renovated. Improvements to street lighting and the various traffic lights were also an integral part of the project.

We are proud to have contributed to this major project, which has revitalized Sherbrooke’s infrastructure and improved the quality of life of its citizens. Thanks to this work, the area has been transformed into a user-friendly space, encouraging active transportation with its bicycle paths, reinforcing safety thanks to the measures put in place, and harmoniously greening the environment, thus creating a new lease of life for the gateway to Sherbrooke’s downtown core.
