The Building Sciences department recently won two contracts with the CEGEP de Trois-Rivières. The first involves the construction of a new building for the Cellulosic Products Innovation Center (the Innofibre Hub), while the second involves the refurbishment of aquatic facilities. Our colleagues in the Materials Engineering department will also be involved in these projects.
The Trois-Rivières CEGEP is made up of several buildings on the main campus, and is home to over 4,000 students. It has three college technology transfer centers, including the Innofibre Hub, and a sports center that includes the CEGEP’s aquatic facilities.
The 30,000 sq. ft. building currently under construction in the Hautes-Forges industrial park will provide Innofibre with new laboratories essential to the applied research activities carried out by the Centre collégial de transfert de technologie. These laboratories will serve SMEs, large corporations and other organizations. The team will be able to develop new compostable cellulose packaging processes using wood residues from the construction sector. The project will also enhance Innofibre’s service offering and contribute to the training of the next generation. Artelia’s mandate includes Building Envelope and Materials Engineering services.
Renovation work on the swimming pool, built in 1973, will be extensive. It will include renovation of the ceramic lining of the pool, the concrete of the diving board and the base of the springboard, updating the ventilation and filtration systems, as well as the building envelope, walls and roof. In addition, an infirmary will be built and new reception areas for users and lifeguards will be created. The stands and changing rooms will also be renovated. This project will improve the aquatic offer for all Trois-Rivières residents and make the facilities more suitable for sports competitions. The pool renovation will benefit school swim teams, students in the Police Techniques program, as well as daily pool users. Artelia’s mandate includes services in building envelope, materials engineering and environmental characterization.
The Building Sciences department is delighted to be taking part in these mandates with the Trois-Rivières CEGEP, projects which will have a number of impacts in different sectors of the region, for students, citizens, businesses, families, competitive sport and science. These projects will mobilize many of our experts, and will be another opportunity to put our collective, multidisciplinary work into practice.
Driven by our values of technical excellence, proximity to clients and entrepreneurial spirit, we are more than ever determined to be a company that is useful to the world and to people, and that contributes to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
