The Réseau électrique métropolitain (REM) represents a major step forward in public transportation in Montreal. At 67 kilometers, this driverless light rail system is the third longest automated network in the world. In preparation for this landmark project, Artelia’s surveying team was commissioned to carry out 3D scans and topographic surveys essential for the implementation of the REM’s critical infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient implementation.

Using our expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, we established a network of precise survey markers, and carried out 3D scans and topographic surveys at the project’s strategic connection points (level crossings and existing stations). The scale of the project, combined with tight deadlines and difficult-to-access sites, was a challenge that the team successfully met. This enabled rapid information gathering and efficient delivery of numerous accurate survey plans, while ensuring compliance with the safety standards required for railway environments.
