Located in a prized residential area bordering the St. Lawrence River, the project to stabilize the embankments on rue Simone-de-Beauvoir and 150e Avenue in Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot was designed to protect the safety of residents while preserving the integrity of the local environment. Unstable embankments and bank erosion posed a serious threat of landslides with potentially catastrophic consequences. This complex project called for cutting-edge technical solutions, combining safety, durability and respect for environmental issues to avoid any further degradation of the banks and surrounding land.

Artelia was selected by the City of Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot to manage all the technical and administrative stages of the project. In collaboration with local authorities, our team designed the plans and specifications for embankment stabilization and the installation of the necessary structures. The mandate also included managing the call for tenders, supervising the work and applying to the MELCC for environmental authorization.

The proposed solution involved the installation of permanent riprap to stabilize the embankments and prevent bank erosion, while incorporating plant engineering techniques to ensure improved aesthetics and lasting soil protection. We also developed fish habitat compensation solutions and designed facilities adapted to the site’s constraints. This project required a meticulous approach, taking into account the proximity of residences and the concerns of citizens, all the while respecting deadlines and budgets. Thanks to our expertise in geotechnical and environmental engineering, we were able to guarantee an effective, environmentally-friendly solution for securing this vulnerable area.
