The Quebec City Infrastructure Department has been commissioned by the City of Quebec to design and supervise preparatory work for the tramway on Couronne and Chalutier streets in the Saint-Roch district. The project will run from the design phase, scheduled for 2025-2026, to the construction phase, which will begin in 2026-2027.

This mandate is a decisive step toward more sustainable and fluid urban mobility that is integrated into the historic fabric of the Saint-Roch neighborhood. It involves the design and supervision of municipal infrastructure work on sections TW-11 (Couronne Street) and TW-12 (Chalutier Street), two strategic arteries that will accommodate the new public transit infrastructure. The goal is to transform these streets into user-friendly, accessible environments adapted to the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s users, while upgrading municipal infrastructure and public spaces.

This is a unique opportunity to rethink mobility, strengthen the resilience of urban networks, and highlight the heritage and social identity of the Saint-Roch neighborhood. A variety of expertise will be mobilized, including civil engineering, hydraulics, electricity, architecture, urban forestry, environment, and landscaping. Planned interventions include the complete overhaul of the drinking water, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer systems; the relocation of urban technical networks; the repair of roads and landscaping; the addition of public lighting, signage, and fiber optics; and a special focus on greening, urban forestry, and environmental protection.

Optimal coordination thanks to BIM process

A particularly innovative aspect of this mandate is the use of a structured BIM modeling process for the entire project. Still relatively uncommon in the field of municipal infrastructure, this approach will enable 3D modeling of underground networks, structures, and developments, thereby promoting optimal coordination between disciplines, better management of technical conflicts, and increased traceability of decisions. Thanks to this digital approach, the City and our team will have powerful tools at their disposal to ensure the quality, sustainability, and efficiency of the project, while reducing long-term risks and costs.

We are pleased to be part of the transformation of this strategic artery into a modern, safe, and welcoming urban space that is seamlessly integrated into Quebec City’s future public transit network.
